How to relax | Simple Sundays

Simple, family routines, homeopathy, LondonI’m almost always happy, but sometimes I think I’ve forgotten how to relax. My weeks are always enjoyable, but full. Switching off is a challenge because there are always so many things I want to do!

A couple of years ago I read a book called Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne, on the recommendation of a friend. I couldn’t put it down. It was full of common sense and it clarified and confirmed some thoughts I had about family routines.

To begin with, I wanted to create simple routines for the benefit of my children. Since then, I’ve realised it’s something that benefits adults too.

We all benefit from predictability and routine.

Immunity, me and homeopathy

immunity, homeopathyI struggled with immunity all my life until I found homeopathy. I guess I was what used to be called ‘a sickly child’.

I suffered with recurring tonsillitis infections from early childhood through into my twenties.

I was prescribed many courses of antibiotics.

Once I started my first job as a primary school teacher, I realised I needed to find a way to stay healthy as I didn’t want to be taking time off work because I was sick with my recurring sinusitis and chest infections.

During my first term of teaching, I caught pneumonia and was really ill.

That was when I knew I had to do something, but I wasn’t sure what.

I love being a mum, but it’s really hard work sometimes.

Just the day in, day out relentlessness of it.

No chance to stay in bed.

Making sure we don’t run out of toilet roll.

Or clean socks.

Remembering which day is P.E.

One of the hardest things is the expectation that you always put your children first. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t, but not always.
